James Kuan, M.D.

Dr Kuan joined Swedish Urology Group in 2007 from the University of Washington where he was on faculty and received fellowship training in Urologic Trauma and Reconstruction at Harborview Medical Center. He also has extensive training in endourolgic management of stone disease, and he has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and textbook chapters, on the topics of trauma, urethral reconstruction and erectile dysfunction.

He brings a unique set of clinical and surgical skills to our practice and the Pacific Northwest. He enjoys practicing general urology with special interests in reconstruction and stone disease. His reconstructive interests include complex urethral stricture disease (open urethroplasty), male sexual dysfunction, male incontinence, prosthetic surgery (inflatable penile implant and artificial urinary sphincter insertion), Peyronie's disease, adult hypospadias and genital skin disease including reconstruction using skin grafts.

Dr. Kuan currently serves as the Medical Director of Urology for the Swedish Ballard campus.  In January 2015, Dr. Kuan became Chief of Urology at Swedish Medical Center.

Dr Kuan was raised in Canada, is a medical graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, and completed his Urology training at the University of Western Ontario. He is American board certified and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.  Now living in Seattle he enjoys biking, photography and travel.  In 2008 he completed a full Ironman.
